Nissan Pathfinder vs. Honda Pilot: SUV Comparison

If you’re preparing to invest in a new family SUV, it’s important to compare two of the market’s biggest contenders: the Honda Pilot vs. Nissan Pathfinder. Both vehicles offer comfort and style without compromising on safety and performance, but they also differ in some important ways. Take a closer look at how the latest Pathfinder measures up to the Pilot before you make your final decision.

Power and Performance

A gray Nissan Pathfinder driving uphill on a winding dirt trail surrounded by greenery, capturing the adventurous spirit of the SUV."

2025 Nissan Pathfinder.

The comparison between these two full-size SUVs starts with what they can do when they rev up. With the Pathfinder, you will hear the hum of a 3.5-liter engine, which is capable of 284 horsepower. All-wheel drive is available, and the nine-speed automatic transmission shifts gears seamlessly on the road. The Nissan Pathfinder towing capacity reaches up to 6,000 pounds (optional on lower trims and standard on higher trims),* which is 1,000 pounds greater than the maximum that the Pilot can tow.^

Speaking of the Pilot, the horsepower of its V6 engine is nearly identical to the Pathfinder, but you will have access to a 10-speed automatic transmission. The Pilot also stands out because of its drive modes; ECON, Snow, Tow, and Sport come standard, while Trail & Sand mode is available. Overall, the Pathfinder has more power to bring you and your heavy equipment to your destination, and both models have off-road capability.

Interior Design

You will never have to travel alone when behind the wheel of the Pathfinder or the Pilot. Both SUVs have three rows of seats, which is enough room for a total of eight passengers. The Nissan Pathfinder keeps you comfortable with heated and ventilated seats on the front row, standard on the Platinum trim level. Thanks to the folding rear seats, you can stash large or long items, such as suitcases and work equipment, within the cabin before you back out of your driveway.

The trunk of the Nissan Pathfinder packed with camping gear, including logs, a lantern, boots, and rolled sleeping bags, emphasizing its cargo capacity and versatility.

The Pilot also has a flexible seating arrangement. With a stowable center seat on the second row, you can secure your belongings, even when the other rear seats are occupied. While the Pilot has slightly more room in the rear for storage, the Pathfinder has three more inches of leg room on the front row.

Safety and Technology

The interiors of both SUVs are equipped with cutting-edge technology that guides you as you drive and keeps you and your passengers entertained. Unlike the Pilot, the Pathfinder has an available 13-speaker premium sound system. You also have the option of adding a cabin camera to keep an eye on the backseat, and you can monitor your outdoor surroundings with an available 360-degree surround view camera.

While inside the Pilot, you can talk to your rear passengers using an available PA system through the speakers. Honda also offers an available navigation system to help you follow directions to a new place.

Nissan Rogue vs Kicks: What is the Difference?

Nissan Kicks vs. Nissan Rogue: Which One Is Best for You?

Choosing the right SUV can be a game-changer for your lifestyle, and the right vehicle will offer the perfect blend of comfort, capability, and versatility. Let’s compare two standout contenders in the SUV world: the Nissan Rogue vs. Nissan Kicks. Whether you prioritize spacious interiors, advanced technology, or robust performance, this side-by-side breakdown will help you make an informed decision and find the vehicle that best complements your adventures.

Size and Maneuverability

When it comes to the Nissan Kicks vs. Rogue size, the Kicks is significantly smaller, which makes it easier to park in crowded areas. Its tighter turning radius allows for swift maneuvering on busy city streets.

In contrast, the Nissan Rogue offers more interior space. However, this does mean it requires more care when navigating narrow spaces. The Rogue's size caters to those who prioritize comfort and cargo capacity.

Performance and Efficiency

The Nissan Kicks is equipped with a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine that cranks out 141 horsepower. It delivers plenty of power and agile acceleration for everyday driving. The Nissan Rogue offers a standard 1.5-liter, three-cylinder engine, which is capable of 201 horsepower and 225 pound-feet of torque.

Interior Comfort and Cargo Space

The Nissan Kicks offers a well-thought-out interior. Its cabin provides a surprising amount of room for a subcompact SUV. Passengers in both the front and rear seats will enjoy ample headroom, and you’ll have up to 30 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats.

Meanwhile, the Nissan Rogue emphasizes spaciousness and comfort. Its interior is designed with quality materials and generous legroom, particularly for the rear passengers. Cargo space is also a strong suit for the Rogue, with up to 36.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats.

Technology and Infotainment

The Nissan Kicks comes equipped with a user-friendly infotainment system. Its touchscreen is intuitive, making it easy for drivers to access essential functions. Connectivity is enhanced with standard features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

For tech-savvy buyers, the Nissan Rogue offers similar technology, such as an available 12.3-inch touchscreen display, four USB ports, and front wireless charging, all of which are standard on higher trim levels.

Safety and Driver Assistance

Safety is a priority for both the Nissan Kicks and the Nissan Rogue. These SUVs feature comprehensive safety suites. These include intelligent forward collision warning, front pedestrian detection, and blind-spot monitoring.

Like the Kicks, the Rogue allows you to examine your surroundings with an available 360-degree camera, but its camera is enhanced by high-definition. Higher trim levels have the option of adding a cabin camera as part of a dual camera drive recorder. This SUV also has an unresponsive driver alert feature, which alerts you if it senses that you’re distracted, drowsy, or otherwise not paying attention to the road.

Explore NewNissan SUVs Near Me

Choosing between Nissan Kicks vs. Nissan Rogue specs boils down to personal needs and preferences. The Kicks excels in affordability and urban agility, making it a great choice for city drivers. The Rogue offers more interior space and features, perfect for families seeking comfort and technology. How The Nissan Rogue Stacks Up to the Competition

Comparing The Nissan Rogue

Selecting the ideal compact SUV can be a daunting task, especially considering the wide array of choices saturating the market. Among the top contenders are the Nissan Rogue, Hyundai Tucson, and Honda CR-V. These vehicles seamlessly combine elements of style, performance, and utility, making them preferred choices for families, explorers, and everyday commuters alike. However, determining the ultimate choice for your family can be tricky. In this blog, we will examine and compare these three sought-after compact SUVs, helping you make an informed decision when considering your next purchase.

How Good is The Nissan Rogue

Design and Exterior:

The design of a vehicle often sets the tone for its personality and appeal. Right from the start, the Nissan Rogue's bold V-Motion grille, distinctive LED lighting, and sculpted lines set it apart from the competition. On the other hand, the Hyundai Tucson offers a more futuristic design, with angular shapes and a prominent front grille while the Honda CR-V opts for a slightly conservative yet refined design, with its trademark grille and streamlined silhouette.

2023 Rogue Design

Interior and Comfort:

The Nissan Rogue boasts an elegant interior with its premium materials and attention to detail. A fully digital instrument panel and an airy, spacious interior deliver both comfort and convenience. Meanwhile, the Hyundai Tucson boasts a driver-focused layout with intuitive controls, while the Honda CR-V's interior focuses on practicality and ergonomic design. While the Tucson and CR-V provide comfortable interiors, the Rogue's high-quality finishes and well-thought-out layout elevate it to a more luxurious level.

Nissan Rogue Interior

Performance and Handling:

Performance is an important factor when it comes to SUVs, and these three models offer a range of engine options to cater to different preferences. The Nissan Rogue boasts a unique fuel-efficient turbocharged three-cylinder engine and a responsive powertrain that strikes a balance between performance and fuel economy. Its engine options provide ample power for both city commutes and highway drives. The Hyundai Tucson offers a similar engine lineup but suffers from a nitpicky push-button shifter and pokey acceleration. The Honda CR-V offers drivers an efficient powertrain, but the base turbo engine provides only modest acceleration. When compared with the competition, the Rogue's polished performance gives it an edge, enhancing the overall driving experience.

2023 Rogue performance

Technology and Infotainment:

In the realm of contemporary SUVs, the Nissan Rogue stands as a testament to the advancement of technology integration.  A user-friendly infotainment system, seamless smartphone integration, and cutting-edge driver assistance systems provide easy-to-use technology at your fingertips. Higher trims offer a digital gauge cluster, a larger touchscreen, and a head-up display, along with wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto phone integration. The Hyundai Tucson offers a comprehensive infotainment setup while the Honda CR-V boasts a reputation for safety, equipped with Honda Sensing, their suite of safety and driver assistance technologies. However, the Rogue's seamless driver-assistance technologies, ProPilot Assist semi-autonomous driving mode, and easy-to-access connectivity give it a technological edge.

2023 Rogue Tech

Cargo Space and Practicality:

The Nissan Rogue prides itself on its impressively spacious interior. Its highly praised Divide-N-Hide cargo system offers creative storage solutions such as convenience storage cubbies, a bi-level dashboard, and a squared-off shift knob. By comparison, the Tucson offers a hands-free power liftgate for added convenience, while the CR-V's rear seats fold flat with ease to accommodate larger items. While all three models provide ample cargo space, the Rogue's versatile storage options make it exceptionally convenient for various needs.

2023 Rogue Cargo Space

Fuel Efficiency and Economy:

Fuel efficiency plays an important role in choosing a vehicle, especially in the age of rising fuel costs and environmental awareness. The Rogue’s turbocharged three-cylinder engine offers an impressive 30 mpg city and 37 mpg highway with the Tucson and CR-V falling close behind it. Hybrid variants are also available for the Rogue and CR-V, providing even better efficiency for eco-conscious drivers.

2023 Rogue fuel economy

How Does The Nissan Rogue Stack Up

When comparing the Nissan Rogue to its competitors, it becomes clear that the Rogue excels in multiple aspects. Its striking design, premium interior, practical storage solution, and comprehensive safety features make it a top contender in the compact SUV market and one of the best Nissan SUVs available. While all three vehicles have their strengths, the Nissan Rogue stands out as a well-rounded choice that caters to the modern driver's desires and demands. The Redesigned 2024 Nissan Ariya Electric SUV

Get ready to embark on a journey into the future with the newly redesigned 2024 Nissan Ariya Electric SUV. Breaking barriers and redefining the concept of electric vehicles (EVs), the Ariya is a testament to Nissan's commitment to innovation, sustainability, and cutting-edge technology.

Design that Inspires

The Ariya is built on an all-new electric vehicle platform, which means that it has been designed from the ground up to be powered by electricity. Its sleek, aerodynamic silhouette embodies a sense of modernity while embracing Nissan's signature style. The Ariya follows a new design theme called “Timeless Japanese Futurism,” which is inspired by Japanese designs and exudes power with grace and simplicity. With thin LED headlamps built of four 20-mm mini-projectors, a giant “aerodynamic shield” in place of a traditional grille, and drop-down LED DRLs, the Ariya exudes an undeniable sense of sophistication.

Electric Performance Redefined

Beneath its sleek exterior lies a powerful electric heart. The 2024 Nissan Ariya’s specs are designed to suit each person’s individual needs. The Venture+ model offers an impressive range of up to 304 miles on a single charge, allowing drivers to explore without boundaries. The base Engage trim offers slightly less range due to that model's smaller battery pack, which is rated for 216 miles per charge. Whether it's within busy city streets or winding country roads, the 2024 Ariya's all-electric powertrain delivers a smooth and exhilarating driving experience.

Innovation at Your Fingertips

The interior of the 2024 Nissan Ariya is spacious and modern, with a minimalist design that is both elegant and functional. The cabin is Nissan’s most daring interior yet, with a flat, low floor that creates a spacious feeling inside. The Ariya’s interior is complete with wood-trim pieces and haptic buttons on the dashboard. With its premium materials and customizable ambient lighting, the spacious cabin is designed to provide a sanctuary for both driver and passengers.

The centerpiece of the Ariya's interior is its innovative tech suite. The Nissan Intelligent Mobility system offers seamless connectivity while you’re on the go. A large touchscreen display provides access to all of the car’s functions, while a head-up display projects important information onto the windshield. Meanwhile, a Bose Premium Audio System delivers high-quality sound throughout the cabin. The infotainment system is intuitive and user-friendly, putting entertainment, navigation, and vehicle controls at your fingertips.

Safety Meets Intelligence

Safety is paramount in the Ariya. It’s equipped with Nissan’s ProPILOT Assist 2.0, which is a semi-autonomous driving system that can help drivers stay centered in their lane, maintain a safe distance from other vehicles, and navigate stop-and-go traffic. The Ariya also features Nissan’s e-Pedal, which allows drivers to accelerate and brake using only one pedal. From advanced driver-assistance features to intelligent emergency braking systems, the Ariya is engineered to prioritize your safety and the safety of those around you.

Embracing Sustainability

Beyond its impressive performance and futuristic design, the 2024 Ariya offers several benefits over traditional gasoline-powered vehicles. One of the most significant benefits of electric vehicles is that they produce zero tailpipe emissions, which means that they are much better for the environment than gasoline-powered vehicles. Additionally, electric vehicles require less maintenance than traditional vehicles because they have fewer moving parts and don’t require oil changes or tune-ups. As an all-electric vehicle, the 2024 Ariya contributes to reducing carbon emissions and minimizing its environmental footprint. By choosing the Ariya, drivers become part of a movement toward a more sustainable future.

The Future is Now

The 2024 Nissan Ariya Electric SUV isn't just a vehicle; it's a statement of Nissan's dedication to innovation and a sustainable tomorrow. With its striking design, exceptional performance, advanced technology, and commitment to the environment, the Ariya stands as a beacon of progress in the automotive industry.

Cold weather can reduce your battery's performance and make it harder to start your car. Have your battery tested and replace it if it's weak or old. You don't want to get stranded with a dead battery on a chilly morning.

2. Change your oil.

Oil lubricates your engine and protects it from wear and tear. But oil can get thicker when it's cold, which reduces its effectiveness. Switch to a thinner oil that can flow better in low temperatures. Check your owner's manual for the recommended oil viscosity for your car and climate.

3. Replace your wiper blades.

Visibility is crucial for safe driving, especially when it rains or gets foggy. Worn-out wiper blades can leave streaks and smears on your windshield, impairing your view. Replace your wiper blades every six months or sooner if they are cracked, torn, or noisy.

4. Inspect your tires.

Tires are your car's only contact with the road, so they need to be in good shape. Check the tread depth and look for signs of damage, such as bulges, cracks, or uneven wear. Rotate your tires regularly to extend their life and improve their performance. Also, check the tire pressure and adjust it according to the manufacturer's specifications. Underinflated tires can reduce your fuel efficiency and handling, as well as increase the risk of blowouts.

5. Test your heater and defroster.

You want to stay warm and comfortable in your car, but you also want to prevent your windows from fogging up or icing over. Test your heater and defroster before winter arrives and make sure they are working properly. If not, have them repaired by a professional.

6. Flush your cooling system.

Your cooling system prevents your engine from overheating, but it also protects it from freezing in cold weather. Over time, the coolant can get contaminated with rust, dirt, and debris, which can clog the system and cause problems. Flush your cooling system and refill it with fresh coolant at least once every two years or as recommended by your car's manual.

7. Pack an emergency kit.

Even if you follow these tips, you never know when you might encounter an unexpected situation on the road. It's always a good idea to have an emergency kit in your car that contains items such as jumper cables, flashlights, flares, blankets, water, snacks, a first-aid kit, and a phone charger. You may also want to include some extra clothing, gloves, a hat, and boots in case you have to wait for help in the cold.

Top 6 Nissan Service Tips for This Summer

Summer is here and it's time to make sure your Nissan is ready for the hot weather and the road trips. Here are some tips to keep your car in top shape and avoid any breakdowns or overheating.

Essential Summer Nissan Checklist

Check your coolant level and condition

Coolant is essential for preventing your engine from overheating and causing damage. Make sure your coolant reservoir is filled to the proper level and that the coolant is clean and free of debris. If the coolant is low, dirty, or rusty, you may need to flush and refill the system or replace the radiator cap.

Check your air conditioning system

nissan air conditioning

Nothing is worse than driving in a hot car with a malfunctioning AC system. Check your AC vents for any signs of reduced airflow or unpleasant odors. You may need to replace the cabin air filter or have the system serviced by a professional. You should also check the refrigerant level and look for any leaks or damage to the hoses, compressor, or condenser.

Check your battery and electrical system

Your battery works harder in summer due to the increased use of the AC, lights, and other accessories. Check your battery terminals for any corrosion or loose connections and clean them if needed. You should also test your battery voltage and look for any signs of swelling, cracking, or leaking. If your battery is more than three years old, you may want to replace it before it fails.

Check your oil and oil filter

Oil is vital for lubricating your engine and reducing friction and heat. Check your oil level and condition regularly and change it according to the manufacturer's schedule or more often if you drive in severe conditions. You should also replace your oil filter every time you change your oil to prevent any contaminants from damaging your engine.

Check your tires and tire pressure

check nissan tires

Tires are one of the most important safety features of your car, especially in summer when the roads are hot and slippery. Check your tire tread depth and look for any signs of wear, damage, or cracking. You should also check your tire pressure regularly and adjust it according to the manufacturer's recommendations. Underinflated or overinflated tires can affect your handling, fuel economy, and braking performance.

Check your brakes and brake fluid

Brakes are crucial for stopping your car safely and avoiding accidents. Check your brake pads and rotors for any signs of wear, noise, or vibration. You should also check your brake fluid level and condition and look for any leaks or damage to the brake lines, hoses, or master cylinder. If you notice any problems with your brakes, have them inspected and repaired by a professional as soon as possible.

Keep Your Nissan Going at Rock Hill Nissan

These are some of the basic maintenance tasks you should perform on your Nissan before hitting the road this summer. By following this checklist, you can ensure that your car is reliable, safe, and comfortable for you and your passengers. 6 Ways to Boost Car Trade-In Value

6 Ways to Boost Car Trade-In Value

If you're planning to trade in your car and upgrade to a new one, you'll want to ensure you get the best value for your current vehicle. Boosting your car's trade-in value requires a combination of strategic maintenance, smart upgrades, and careful presentation. By following a few key steps, you can maximize the appeal of your car and increase its trade-in value, ultimately putting you in a stronger position when negotiating with dealerships. Whether you're looking to trade in a luxury sedan or a practical SUV, these tips will help you optimize your car's worth and make the most of your trade-in opportunity.

1. Do Your Homework:

When researching the potential value of your car, there are several factors to consider to ensure an accurate assessment. Start by gathering information about your vehicle, such as its make, model, year, mileage, and overall condition. This data will help you compare your car to similar vehicles in the market. Utilize online platforms like Kelley Blue Book, Edmunds, and NADA Guides, which provide comprehensive vehicle valuation tools based on various parameters. These tools take into account factors like location, optional features, market demand, and recent sales data to estimate your car's value.

Additionally, consider checking local classified ads, online marketplaces, and dealership listings to gauge the prices at which similar vehicles are being sold. Keep in mind that the condition of your car and any additional modifications or repairs can impact its value. Lastly, it may be beneficial to consult with professionals, such as appraisers or automotive experts, to obtain a more precise valuation.

2. Fix Any Issues:

Addressing and resolving any mechanical issues in your car can significantly enhance its trade-in value. When prospective buyers consider purchasing a used vehicle, they often prioritize reliability and functionality. By investing in repairs and maintenance, you not only ensure that your car operates smoothly but also instill confidence in potential buyers. A car free from mechanical issues demonstrates a well-maintained and cared-for vehicle, making it more appealing and valuable. Whether it's fixing engine troubles, addressing transmission issues, or resolving electrical glitches, attending to these concerns showcases your commitment to the car's overall performance and increases its trade-in worth.

If you're in the market for repairs, let the Nissan experts at Rock Hill Nissan give it a once over!

3. Shop Around:

Shopping around can have a significant impact on boosting your car's trade-in value. By taking the time to research and explore different dealerships and offers, you can gain valuable insights into the market value of your vehicle. This knowledge empowers you to negotiate better trade-in deals and obtain a fair price for your car.

Additionally, comparing offers from multiple dealerships allows you to leverage competition, potentially increasing the value of your trade-in. By shopping around, you can ensure that you receive the best possible trade-in value for your car, maximizing your financial return and making the process of upgrading or selling your vehicle more rewarding.

4. Negotiate The Value:

Negotiating the value of your trade-in can greatly impact your ability to get the best price for your vehicle. By engaging in this process, you have the opportunity to demonstrate your knowledge about the market value of your trade-in and showcase any unique features or recent upgrades that can enhance its worth. By researching the current market value and the condition of your vehicle, you can present a compelling case to the dealership or buyer, explaining why your trade-in should be valued higher.

Negotiating allows you to advocate for a fair price that accurately reflects the true worth of your trade-in, potentially maximizing the amount of money you receive toward your new purchase or reducing the overall cost of your transaction.

5. Keep Your Car In Good Condition:

Keeping your car in good condition is essential not only for its performance and reliability but also for its value. Regular maintenance and care, such as routine oil changes, tire rotations, and brake inspections, can prevent major mechanical issues and ensure that your car runs smoothly.

Maintaining a clean interior and exterior, addressing any cosmetic damage promptly, and keeping detailed service records can significantly boost your car's resale value. Potential buyers are more likely to pay a higher price for a well-maintained vehicle that shows minimal signs of wear and tear, making it a wise investment to keep your car in excellent condition.

6. Time Your Trade-In:

Timing your trade-in to get the best value requires careful consideration and awareness of various factors. Firstly, stay informed about the market conditions and fluctuations in the value of the item you plan to trade in. Monitor price trends and analyze historical data to identify patterns that may indicate optimal selling periods. Also, keep an eye on industry events, product releases, or upgrades that could impact the value of your item. Consider timing your trade-in before a new model is introduced, as values tend to decrease afterward. Furthermore, take into account seasonal demand and promotional offers that could affect the trade-in value. Finally, be mindful of the condition and maintenance of your item to ensure it retains its value. By staying knowledgeable and strategic, you can increase your chances of getting the best value for your trade-in.

Boost your trade-in value

Get The Most Out Of Your Trade

Boosting your car's trade-in value is not a complicated task but requires some effort and attention to detail. By following these tips, you can significantly increase the worth of your vehicle when it comes time to trade it in. Taking care of regular maintenance, addressing cosmetic imperfections, and providing thorough documentation can make a world of difference. Additionally, conducting market research, considering timing, and leveraging negotiation skills can further maximize your trade-in value. Remember, the investment of time and effort now can lead to a higher trade-in value, giving you a stronger position to negotiate a better deal on your next vehicle.

5 Simple Ways To Get Your Car Ready for Winter

For the majority of the year, driving conditions are pretty tepid. But the true test of your integrity as a car owner, and the quality of your car comes during the winter months. This is when you can truly get punished for not taking care of your car unless you take care of the necessary winter car prep. Between harsh winter weather and the toll the cold, ice, snow, and salt can take, you really have to step up your winter car care game to get your vehicle winter ready.

Winter Car Care Checklist

We don’t want to see you or your car on the side of the road this winter season. The best way to avoid any issues is to make sure your car is ready to take on whatever the next few months have in store. So before things get really rough, here are 5 simple winter car care tips that will help you and your car be ready for the colder months ahead.

Juice Up Your Battery

auto battery test
Having to wait for a jump in the middle of the cold and possibly snow is up there with the worst things to happen in winter. If you don’t check your battery before the cold weather sets in, you’re really taking a gamble. The extreme cold that we tend to see can make it difficult for your battery to operate. And the last thing you want is to come back to your car left in a cold parking lot and find it dead leaving you with no heat. The best advice you’ll get today is to get a volt test on your battery now. This will tell you what the health of your battery looks like and whether or not you should invest in a new battery.

Maintain Your Tires

winter tires
When it comes to driving in winter, the quality of your tires is paramount. But it’s not just about what kind of tires you have but keeping an eye on your tire pressure as well. Investing in winter tires or all-season tires is a great idea and one we highly recommend. You want something that you can rely on for snow, rain, mud, and anything else you may encounter this year. However, something that gets overlooked often is tire pressure. As the air gets colder, tire pressure can drop up to one pound per square inch with every 10-degree drop. Keep an eye on your tire pressure and make sure you fill them if they are looking low.

Check Your Fluids

oil change
Every fluid in your car is going to help it perform the best it can during the colder months. For this reason, it’s very important that all of your fluid levels are good and fresh. Change your oil and filters if it’s coming near time, flush and refill your coolant/antifreeze, and fill your windshield wiper fluid. Doing all of these now will ensure that your car works the way it should even when temperatures drop.

Wash Your Car

car wash
This may seem like a weird thing to do, but it’s surprisingly important. However, this is something that you should do throughout the winter months. As more snow hits the roads, the county will salt those roads in an effort to keep them as clear as possible. But that salt will also end up on your car, especially all over your undercarriage. While the salt really helps the roads, it can wreak havoc on your car and cause rust. That is unless you give it a good wash after a big snow. Both an automatic and manual wash will work, as long as you can hit your undercarriage well.

Pack an Emergency Kit

Winter emergency kit
Everything is all fun and games until your car dies in the middle of a snowstorm. Whether you slid on ice or something happened with your engine, or maybe even ran out of gas, having an emergency kit may just save your life. Depending on the weather and where you are, you definitely need to be prepared for anything. Here are some things you should have packed:

  • First-aid kit
  • Jumper cables
  • Snow brush and ice scraper
  • Flares
  • Multi-tool with a knife
  • Portable charger
  • Air pump
  • Shovel
  • Cat litter or sand
  • Candle and lighter
  • Thermal blanket
  • Snacks and water

Stay Safe Out There

Winter can be a crazy time, but making your vehicle winter ready ahead of time can go a long way. These are just a couple of things you can do, but there’s always more. Do your research and talk with our fantastic service technicians about what you should have done before the colder months are on top of us. Be smart and stay safe this holiday season!

Protecting Your Nissan During a Hurricane or Severe Weather

Summer may be over, but we’re still in the thick of hurricane season. While Florida usually gets the brunt of the storms, there are good chances that those strong residual winds, rains, and other terrifying weather will affect the Charlotte area as well. And when that happens, it’s crucial to protect your Nissan from the damage these strong storms can cause.

Storms can cause a lot of damage, especially if you’re unprepared. Falling trees or limbs, hail, debris blown around by the strong winds, and all of this and more can pose significant risks to a car sitting out on the street unprotected. And there’s nothing worse than waking up after a crazy storm to see your car dented or windows cracked or broken as a result. While your favorite local Nissan experts at Rock Hill Nissan are here to help repair any damage, we’d rather you avoid that situation completely. So here are some things you can do to keep your Nissan out of harm's way!

How to Protect Your Car During Hurricanes and Tropical Storms

Strong storms like hurricanes or even severe thunderstorms can produce some crazy weather conditions. These can include hail the size of quarters or larger that can fall at speeds faster than 100 miles per hour, fast and strong winds sometimes reaching speeds of 74 miles per hour, and incredible amounts of heavy rain averaging around 16 inches, all resulting in flooding from storm surges, personal and property damage, and more. If you’ve left your car out on the road in the middle of a hurricane, tropical storm, or even a severe thunderstorm, there’s a good chance that your car will be on the receiving end of some crazy damage from trees, debris, water, and a lot more. We’re here to help give you some tips on how to protect your car in the event of severe weather events and future-proof yourself a bit in the process.

Preparing Your Car For The Storm

Protecting your car from any potential damage is definitely the first thing you should be thinking about. There are a handful of things you can do to prep your car from the barrage of wind, rain, and more that is bound to come during any severe weather event.

  • Remove any crucial documents and personal items
  • Lock all doors and close windows and moon/sunroofs
  • Protect windows and lights with foam and duct tape
  • Set your hand/emergency brake to brace your car
  • Fill the gas tank
  • Use a car cover or large blanket/rug

The number one thing you want to do is secure any and all documents as well as personal items. This can include your insurance cards, registration, and any other important papers you may be keeping in your glove box. In the event of flooding, you definitely don’t want any of those papers to receive any severe water damage. Once you’ve got all you wanted to out of your car, you can begin adding layers of protection. Placing foam against the windows secured with duct tape will support your windows during intense winds. Setting your parking brake gives your car something to brace against in the event of flooding and winds. And of course, covering your car with a heavy blanket paired with a tarp will help protect against falling debris or hail. Filling your gas tank is a really good way to give yourself an out if you suddenly need to move your car or evacuate from your house or apartment. All of this, as well as anything else you come up with, will be great ways to protect your car the best you can from damage during a storm.

Where to Park Your Car During a Storm

Knowing where to park your car during a storm can give you a huge advantage and help you avoid serious damage. It should come as no surprise that parking under a tree or next to the water is probably not the greatest idea during an intense storm. You want a place that does more to protect your car and avoid anything that may easily break off and land on said car. Places like covered parking garages are very ideal, as they provide not only nearly complete coverage on all sides but often place your car at a higher elevation which can protect your car from flooding. You definitely want to avoid basement or low-level parking areas, as those will be the first places to flood during heavy rainfall. However, any enclosed parking space will be more ideal than an open-air parking lot, so if you have a parking garage best make use of it. And even if you’re car is protected on all sides, it’s still a good idea to implement all of the layers of protection. More protection is always a good idea.

Future-Proof Yourself

Before any serious storm, if you’re expecting the chance that your car may be damaged, it may be a good idea to take pictures of the condition of your car BEFORE the storm. Most car insurances do provide a level of natural disaster coverage. However, insurance also typically will look for any reason not to pay out that coverage. If you take pictures of the condition of your car before the storm, you have a solid baseline to compare any damage that may have taken place during the storm. And photo evidence is irrefutable in most cases.

Driving During a Severe Storm

Obviously, it’s not a great idea to head out on the road in the middle of a hurricane or other severe weather event. However, some situations are unavoidable, like having to evacuate from your home or apartment building, or driving back home and you get stuck in a storm. So if you’re going to be driving in the middle of one of the worst situations possible, be smart about it.

The number one thing to avoid is any flooded roads or washed-out bridges. Even if you have a decent off-road vehicle that’s prepared for situations like that, you likely don’t have the necessary training or experience to come out of that unscathed. Find a new route that takes a higher road. Another road hazard to watch for is fallen objects or downed power lines. Storms can bring down a whole manner of branches, whole trees, telephone poles, and power lines that can pose a great risk to you on the road. Don’t take the risk of trying to move the branch and definitely don’t touch downed power lines as they are likely still live and extremely dangerous. Stay in your car and find a way around or a completely new route.

The way you drive will also change depending on the situation. During low visibility and high winds and rain, it’s best to slow down as much as you can. Driving slow allows you to have more time to respond to stalled vehicles or road hazards, while also giving you more control against strong winds.

Stay Safe Out There

Hurricanes, tropical storms, and other forms of severe weather are no joke. They’ve accounted for billions of dollars of damage and countless deaths over the years and we don’t want you to fall victim to the increasing danger these severe weather events bring with them. While these tips are not a guarantee that you’ll avoid any and all danger or damage by any means, they are certainly a good start to protecting yourself and your property. To learn more, please visit https://www.ready.gov/hurricanes and stay safe out there! Remember, a car is replaceable, you are not.

Safe Street Parking in Charlotte 101

Escaping over the border into Charlotte for a bit of R&R can be truly enjoyable. However, the parking situation, like that of many larger cities, is less than ideal. Garages and parking lots tend to be pricey, which leaves street parking as the most cost-effective option.

As a Rock Hill resident, you know that parking downtown can be hard to come by, especially on weekends. With street parking as one of only a few options available to you, it's simply an unavoidable part of your life behind the wheel. So, if you have to park on the street, you may as well stay safe doing it. Below are some basic things every Rock Hill Nissan driver can do to ensure the safety of their vehicle when parking on the street.

Enjoy Your Visit Without Stressing About Street Parking

There are many fears when it comes to leaving your car parked on the street, but none compare to the idea of having to actually park. Parallel parking is something that many drivers struggle with, but it’s an important skill to master. So, how comfortable are you with parallel parking? More importantly, can you parallel park? Because if the answer to either of these questions is no, you may want to just pony up the twenty-or-so bucks required to gain access to an oversaturated parking garage. However, if you have the mettle to take on the tall task of parallel parking on a busy city street, keep reading. Whether it’s a Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, or Fiat, parallel parking is a must.

Easy Tips for Safe Street Parking in Charlotte

  • Read the street signs: A common joke among big-city drivers, street signs are something that should be simple to interpret but, oftentimes, are not. With differing messages, time restraints, and symbols all coexisting on the same small rectangular sign, parking legally on the street can require some focus and mental fortitude. Take your time, read the signs and ensure that you won't be returning to a freshly booted vehicle.
  • Park under street lights, not tree branches: If possible, it's always a good idea to park your car in a well-lit area. In general, the more visible your car is, the safer it will be. Parking under trees, on the other hand, should be avoided whenever possible. Trees shed debris with rain and wind and, on occasion, come down completely in severe weather. Not to mention bird poop is rather annoying, especially with a convertible.
  • Fold in side mirrors: One of the easiest ways to protect your car when parking on the street is by simply folding in your driver-side side mirror. This prevents an irresponsible driver from passing too close to your parked car, clipping off your mirror, and continuing on with their day, leaving you with the bill for repairs.
  • Take or hide your things and lock up: On average, over 80,000 unlocked cars are stolen each year. That's right, unlocked cars. So, while this may seem like an obvious tip, it is an important one. Lock your car, take your keys with you and be sure that no valuables are visible to people passing by and peeking in. Make sure potential thieves have no reason to be interested in your car or anything inside it.
  • Hey Siri, Drop a Pin: People are forgetful. We forget our keys, our phones, our wallets. Heck, sometimes we forget whether or not our kids are in the backseat. We also, on occasion, forget where we park. Prevent this issue by dropping a pin on your maps app before you leave your ride behind. Then, when you're ready to return, simply pull up the pin and find your ride in no time.

Worthwhile Ideas

  • Car wash: Getting your car washed about every two weeks is a great way to make sure your car looks presentable. Beyond that, it shows would-be thieves that you pay attention to your vehicle. Oftentimes, car thieves target vehicles that look neglected. The idea here is that they will have more time after the theft to do with the car what they want before the owner even notices it's gone. So, protect your car's exterior appearance and show people you care about your ride with frequent washes.
  • Snow cover: A snow cover or car blanket protects your car from all elements. Whether that's snow, hail, tree debris, or bird droppings, a cover is a great way to protect your ride and prevent passersby from seeing what's inside.
  • Sunshade: Over time, constant exposure to the sunlight will cause fading and cracks on your dash and other areas of your interior. A sunshade is a great way to protect your car's interior and prevent potential thieves from seeing something worth stealing in your car.
  • Catalytic converter shield: This may sound like an unnecessary precaution, but when you consider the fact that an experienced thief can steal a catalytic converter in about two minutes, that $350 shield is looking a lot better than a $2,000+ converter.

Explore Charlotte Without Worry

With more and more people moving to major metropolitan areas each year, parking in areas like Dayton is getting harder and harder to find, while inventory for car thieves has never been higher. However, if you follow these steps, you can rest easy knowing that you've done all you can to protect your car while it's parked on the street.

2021 Nissan Kicks

2021 Nissan Kicks

The Nissan Kicks is a fantastic subcompact SUV for anyone searching for plenty of cargo room at a low price. The Nissan Juke was replaced by this vehicle in 2018, although the Juke is still available in other parts of the world. It has an extensive list of standard features and has excellent fuel economy for its class. Those who primarily drive in the city and place a premium on practicality and value should carefully consider purchasing this vehicle.

Trims to Purchase

The 2021 Nissan Kicks will be available in three trim levels: SV, S, and SR. Though this is a highly attractive SUV, its engine, which should have been better, is the single flaw in an otherwise excellent package. AWD (All-Wheel Drive) (AWD) is not available since Nissan prioritized fuel economy over off-road performance for this SUV.

Exteriors:

The 2021 Nissan Kicks, as Nissan's smallest crossover, gets a style refresh over the previous year, with streamlined headlamps and tail lamps, reworked bumpers, a bigger grille (double V Motion grille), and a completely new 17-inch aluminum wheel design. The front of the lower lip is attractively extended. The bonnet design is simple, with bulges running from the front to the A-pillar.

On the sidewalls of the SV trim, color-matched mirror caps and door handles can be observed. The roof rails are metallic silver in color. At the back, a shark fin antenna can be seen. A new feature for 2021 is a mimicked rear diffuser section at the bottom of the car.

Engine Performance and Specifications:

The engine of this vehicle is a 1.6-liter inline-4 that produces 125 hp of power and 115 lb-ft of torque. A CVT is used to deliver power (Continuously Variable Transmission) here. It takes 9.7 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph. The vehicle has FWD (Front Wheel Drive) and has a City/highway fuel economy of 31 MPG/36 MPG. Clearly, this is not a car capable of competing in a drag race!

Interiors:

Inside the 2021 Nissan Kicks, significant alterations have been done to make it more appealing than previously. On the door panels, hard and basic polymers have been employed, with an aluminum finish. Door pockets of reasonable sizes can be seen here. The dashboard is also made of hard plastic, although it has a textured design. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are offered on an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

There are standard AC controls, as well as cubby holders beneath them. The stitch work on the armrest has been revised for 2021. There is good-quality, long-lasting textile upholstery, as well as manual seat controls for the drivers and co-passengers. Despite the fact that the Kicks is not a big SUV, headroom in the front is excellent.

The 2021 Nissan Kicks comes with a steering wheel with a flat bottom. In the instrument cluster, there is an analog speedometer. There are more than 25 cubic feet of rear cargo capacity here.

2021 Nissan Leaf Vs. 2021 Chevrolet Bolt

2021 Nissan Leaf Vs. 2021 Chevrolet Bolt

Both above hatchbacks offer various tech tools and confident acceleration, although they don't have the same appeal as the Tesla Model 3. However, the differences or similarities between the two electric vehicles are better highlighted by the following comparison:

  1. MSRP- The 2021 Chevrolet Bolt LT is significantly more expensive than the 2021 Nissan Leaf S. Consequently, buyers will have to change their budgets. In terms of cost per mile, however, there's not much choice between the two, which is only marginally better for the Bolt.
  2. Engine and Transmission- Both vehicles have electric motors coupled to single-speed automatic transmissions. A 147 hp electric motor and 40 kWh lithium-ion battery pack come standard on the Leaf LT. It might not seem like much power, but a more powerful 62kWh lithium-ion battery is also available in higher versions. Models are said to develop 214 hp. Compared to the LT, the Bolt has a 200hp electric motor for quick acceleration at higher trims, propelling it from 060mph in under 7 seconds.
  3. Driving Range- While the lower-powered battery in the 2021 Leaf can travel 149 miles on a full charge, the other covers that distance up to 226 miles. The 2021 Bolt again scores top marks with a range of 259 miles.
  4. Drivetrain- Both vehicles are available in only FWD (Front-Wheel-Drive), with no option for AWD (All-Wheel-Drive)
  5. Curb Weight- There’s not much to choose in terms of curb weight for the two hatches. While the Chevy Bolt reigns in at 3,563 lbs., the Nissan Leaf weighs 3,538 lbs.
  6. Combined Fuel Economy- For most buyers, the main reason for choosing an electric vehicle is high mileage. Expect the Bolt to be able to offer a combined fuel economy of 118 MPGe compared to 112 MPGe for the Leaf.
  7. External Styling- Most customers will find the 2021 Nissan Leaf's exterior design to be more upmarket than the 2021 Chevrolet Bolt. The V-Motion grille at the front of the Leaf really makes this hatch stand out. While the Leaf looks sleeker and more streamlined, GM's engineers tried to give the Bolt a muscular look.
  8. Safety Technologies- Automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane departure warning are standard safety features as part of a Leaf safety program called ProPilot Assist. While imperfect on a few fronts, it reduces the stress of driving in congested areas. Unfortunately, the Bolt doesn't even have adaptive cruise control; Standard Leaf security features are optional here.
  9. Trunk Space- The Leaf clearly beats the Bolt in terms of trunk volume. Behind the second row of seats, the Bolt has just 16.9 cubic feet of capacity. That's less space than the 23.6-cubic-foot Leaf. Interestingly, the Bolt's cargo space increases to 56.6 cubic feet with the rear seats folded, which is significantly more than the Leaf's 30 cubic feet.
